Anonymous Glossary

In one of the 10 fundaments of Anonymous one reads that one of the ways Scientology isolates its members is because it is loading the subject with "words altered from common use, making communication difficult".

This is a rather ironic statement to make on Anonymous' part, knowing that the world of anonymouses is replete with gobbledygook of its own.

Here is a short glossary (growing as I gradually encounter them). A good source to make sense of some of the jargon you'll hear is the Urban Dictionary.

Commonly Used

an hero
Committing suicide over something really stupid. Term originates from a grammatically incorrect poem posted at a myspace memorial for a boy (Mitchell) who killed himself when he couldn't find his ipod. By extension, to commit suicide, regardless of how stupid the reason is or is not. By more extension, doing something stupid, which results in accidentally killing yourself. Examples: 1."Yasmin hung herself when her mother didn't let her watch big brother; she is an hero." 2."That's the most worthless idea ever; go become an hero."

asdf
The first 4 letters in the home row. Commonly used by internet newbs to either spam a board, create topics, or "remind" another user that they are there and existent, demanding attention. Used when an appropriate title cannot be ascertained. Or: In the subject bar of an email when no title is deemed worthy.

fail
Either an interjection used when one disapproves of something, or a verb meaning approximately the same thing as the slang form of suck. Most probably derived from the world of internet gaming.

lulz
A typographical subversion of the word "lol", meaning to Laugh Out Loud, thus emphasising the humour derived from the subject by way of making the original word sillier. Lulz is the one good reason to do anything, from trolling to rape. After every action taken, you must make the epilogic dubious disclaimer: "I did it for the lulz".

n00bie, n00b.
A novice, one who plays, thinks or behaves like a novice, one whose self-acclaim is greatly superior to their actual expertise or accomplishments.

newbs
Short for Newbies.

newfag
1. Expression for someone new in a online forum that starts with the left foot and begins flaming from the very first post. 2. A newcomer to 4chan. Hated by Anons everywhere. Usually this person consists of failure and tries too hard to fit in.

meme
A pervasive idea within a given culture. The idea replicates itself via cultural means and on the Internet mostly spreads through web sites, emails, blogs, forums, videos, and other channels.  The goal of the meme is to change the thought patterns of the populace. Derived from the Greek mimėma, 'something imitated'. In French means "the same". In Turkish means boob (oops, forget that).

moar
A combination of "more" and "roar" (Right Of Admission Reserved). A cry of lust intended to elicit more of whatever stimulated the lust. Usually accompanied by foaming at the mouth.

namefag
Term used on 4chan.org for people who post using a name instead of simply post as "anonymous" like most others do. Usually used as in insult.

pwned
A corruption of the word "Owned." This originated in an online game called Warcraft, where a map designer misspelled "owned." It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force. Ex: "That team totally pwned us."

pr0n
Pornographic material viewed, obtained or created via computer. Used to evade spelling filters which look for the word 'Porn'.  Also used by underage ubernerds to avoid the embarrassing circumstance of their mother walking in to find her son downloading files upon files of the material on kazaa.

/r/
Abbreviation of 'requesting'. /r/ is a place on the internet where you go to request things you'd never request in the real world

rickrolled
To be tricked by a forum troll into clicking on a Rick Astley music video.

scifag
Derogatory term to refer to all members of Scientology being disliked.

scilon
A person who sympathizes or is directly involved with the Church of Scientology. Used in a derogatory manner.

tl;dr
"Too long; didn't read"

Wise Beard Man
Mark Bunker. Scientology critic, Emmy winner journalist, and actor. Creator of xenutv.com. Author of an historical video  intervention that helped Anonymous redirect its fight from hacking to street protests.

More

4chan
A message board and image board on the Internet where people congregate to post various kinds of pictures, flash animations, and discuss things such as anime. It is the English version of the original Japanese board with a similar system: 2chan.
The system that 4chan uses is Anonymous, so one can safely post one's opinion without worrying. One can use a name and a tripcode (a # followed by a 'password') to gain 'status' on 4chan.

/b/
4chan's "Random" image board. A place where you go to become your inner asshole, or, live out your sickest fantasies.

dont
Conjunction of do and not, forming don't, but without the apostrophe.

encyclopedia dramatica
A wiki-based collaborative site humour cataloguing internet culture, memes and internet drama, especially relating to livejournal, 4chan, wikipedia and troll activites lampooning virtually all popular subcultures taking a crude and ill-restrained approach.

ubernerd
computer nerd who dont have a life, stalk people that wont be thier friends, spam people that make him/her jealous, pull thier pants up way high, turned on by Anti-Virus serial codes that allow them to have a lifetime subscription to AVG.

thier
A common misspelling of "their" often made by new generation kids who spend all their time slacking off in school, and using abbreviations on nearly any word concievable or, by those who think "I before E except after C" is a rule in English. (Note that inverting letters is also a common practice, such as caek instead of cake.)
