Ironically, the anti-cult movement can be a cult itself. It has its "doctrine" and its fanatics, and it has already done considerable damage. Discrimination, injustices, and the violent "resolution" of conflicts (such as Jonestown and Waco) can often be traced back to the action of its well-meaning but fanaticized and blinded members. The core doctrine of this "cult" is the "mind-control" theory. The "cult mind-control" was the subject of intense scholarly and legal debates in the 70's-80's but became less of a topic when it got debunked. Anti-cultists, however, continue to believe in it, and refer to scientists who proven them wrong as "cult apologists". |
