Scientology views the human being as a powerful Thetan trapped in a
meat body and impeded by his reactive mind. They believe that as
such they are capable of formidable feats when they can set the
reactive mind aside. This transpires through an impressive number of
Scientology concepts and goes a long way to explain abuses in the
Sea Org:
-
Necessity level - that will call
on the power of the Thetan when people are desperate. This is
the kind of power you see in Hollywood films when the hero
really-really-really must-must-must succeed. Scientologists often use the
example of the mother who was able to lift up a car to save her
baby.
-
Tone 40 - is the total intention
with which you can displace mountains. This is the full power of
the Thetan, the ultra top on the tone scale. It is infinite and
can achieve anything.
-
Reactive Mind - The reactive mind
(together with cosmic implants) is the cumulated case of the
Thetan that trims down its power. While the reactive mind is
what is being addressed by auditing, the person must be able to
put it aside while at work (or as an auditor) for the glorious cause of clearing the planet. This is where the necessity level
kicks in.
-
Total Responsibility - The Thetan
is all powerful. Everything that happens to him is of his own
making. Bad things happen to him because he is basically good.
When he does something bad, he withdraws from the area he has
damaged, and thus withdraws from its own powers and therefore
declines. He also creates a "motivator", i.e. something
bad happening to him, to justify his bad action. Therefore, he
is totally responsible for what he does and for what happens to
him. Because of this, Scientology considers that there is no
reason for a person not being able to do his job in clearing the
planet if he really wants to.
-
Confront - is the very first thing
you learn in Scientology training. The person must face others,
and must face his problems in order to resolve them. When
auditing others, the auditor must confront, be in PT (Present
Time), so he can set aside his own reactive mind. The same must a
loyal staff member in shiny armor do.
-
The Only Way Out is Through - When
you are in the middle of an incident during auditing, there is
no other way than continue until you are through with it. Doing
otherwise will have for effect of being stuck n the incident and
would be much worst than not going into the incident in the
first place. Therefore, no matter how hard it is, you must
persist through the incident until it is "flattened". This
concept is carried forward to real life, where you must persist
through hardship conditions until you successfully go through
and out..
-
Being Cause - The Thetan is either
Cause or Effect. Obviously, Scientology expect staff members to
be "At Cause". The thetan also has the power to
make things happen by postulates only, and he can create his own
reality and anything he really wants..
-
Make it Go Right - is the phrase
that sums up all the above. In the high necessity of saving the
planet, the person must set his reactive mind aside and confront
difficulties until he is through with them. Through Tone 40
intention he must be at Cause. There are no excuses, and the
person is ultimately responsible for everything he does and
everything that happens to him.
-
Counter intentions - if the person
isn't able to call on the power of the Thetan in forwarding the
glorious aims of Scientology it means he has "counter
intentions" to that aim. This could be because he has
doubts, misunderstood words, and of course because maybe he is
an SPs;
-
Screaming - is a way to use Tone
40 powers to "remove counter-intentions", get people to
set their reactive mind aside, and call on them to use their
Thetan powers to make it go right. Because of these concepts, it
is perfectly OK in Scientology to scream at people from the top
of your head, and in fact is a common practice.
-
Get your Stats Up - Everything in
a Scientology organization is considered a service that helps
others, and is being represented by an objective product. That
product in turn is quantified by a statistic. The more your
stats go up, the more you produce, and the more you help others.
Scientology does not accept stats going down. They have to
constantly go up, the steeper the better. There is no excuse.
Remember, the Thetan is all powerful. This also defines how good
the person is and explains why "upstat" people can get away with
crimes, because in getting their stats up they help a lot of
people so the minor things they do are not that important.
-
Others - You will find many other
concepts in Scientology to go along that central belief line.
Now... go back to the horror stories you read
on the Internet, in particular those involving the Sea Org, and see
how the vast majority of reported abuses find their root in this
basic Scientology concept : ""THE SUPREME TEST OF A
THETAN IS THE ABILITY TO MAKE THINGS GO RIGHT".
