An examination of the critical bias against Scientology

Disclaimer- This page is written by a Scientologist who goes by the nick of E.J. Though I host E.J.'s pages on my domain, bernie.cncfamily.com, to allow moderate Scientologists a way to express their views, it represents E.J.'s view only. If one spends much time in the company of critics, he quickly notices a pattern. The same tired old arguments keep getting raised, over and over. I can tell you with some certainty, that it doesn't matter how many times one points out the errors in the critical arguments - they just keep coming back. Again and again.

As I've begun to grow weary of constantly repeating myself on these points, I've decided to take the time to make some of my counter-point arguments available here. At least, by reading my information, you'll be armed with a more complete understanding of the counter-position. You can then make up your own mind.

An examination of Operation Clambake

Many critics commonly claim that the state of Clear does not exist.

"Scientology costs too much!"
Many critics focus on the cost of Scientology services.

"Scientology is an opressive religion!"
Critics promote the myth that Scientologists cannot look at critical information without facing punishment.

Electro-Convulsive Therapy
This controversial treatment is more common than critics claim.

Do the ends justify the means?
This critical position suggests that if even one person is harmed by an activity, the activity is inherently flawed.

"Scientology is not a science"
Some critics feel they must disprove Scientology's beliefs on scientific grounds.

Scientologists don't believe in God
There is a myth (born from misunderstanding) that the Church claims there is no God.

The Church doesn't engage in charity
A myth you might come across that has no basis in reality.

Fair Game
A very common point of criticism, this policy is constantly misrepresented by critics.

The tragic death of this woman has been exploited by critics since it occurred.

Scientology in Court
Critics accuse the Church of being overly litigious and mean spirited.

Critics often suggest that members are forced, against their will to break up their families.

Misc. Claims about L.R.H.
The critics will often choose to focus their attacks on L.R.H.'s character.

ODDBALL CLAIMS:

I've come across some claims which rest clearly in the realm of fiction.
